i-Size Car Seats

i-Size Approved Car Seats are designed and regulated according to the i-Size standard. i-Size is a European safety regulation for child restraint systems, introduced to improve the safety of children during car journeys. i-Size Approved Car Seats have several distinct features and advantages over older child restraint system regulations:
  • Height: Unlike the previous weight classification system, the i-Size standard is based on the baby or child's height to determine the suitability of the seat. This means that the child should remain in the i-Size seat until they reach the height limit specified by the manufacturer.
  • ISOFIX installation system: i-Size seats are generally installed using the ISOFIX system, which is a safer and more practical method of securing the seat in the car compared to the car's seat belt. This substantially reduces the percentage of installation errors.
  • Side impact protection: i-Size seats are designed to offer greater protection against side impacts, which helps reduce the risk of injuries in the event of a collision.
  • Rear-facing for longer: i-Size seats encourage the use of a rear-facing car seat for a longer period, which is considered 5 times safer for babies and young children.
  • Clear installation indication: i-Size seats generally have clear visual and audible indicators that provide feedback on correct installation, making it easier for parents to check if the seat is properly secured in the car.
i-Size Approved Car Seats are widely recognized for their effectiveness in protecting babies and children during car journeys.

What does i-Size mean and how does it differ from older car seats?

i-Size is the current name for the European R129 regulation, which classifies car seats mainly by the child's height (in centimetres), rather than weight, as the previous regulation did. i-Size car seats reinforce side protection and rear-facing travel for longer. All models in this collection comply with this approval.

How do I choose the right i-Size seat for my child's age?

The choice is mainly based on your child's height and weight, within each seat's approved range. This collection includes models for newborns, such as the Cybex Cloud G and Maxi-Cosi Pebble, and evolving seats that grow with your child, such as the Cybex Sirona G and Britax Römer Swivel-Grow. Always check the limits given on the product page.

Do i-Size car seats need an Isofix base?

Many i-Size car seats fit onto an ISOFIX base, which stays fixed to the car and makes fitting faster and safer. Some items in this collection are packs that already include the base (for example, the Cybex Cloud G + Base pack), while for others the base is sold separately. Check the stated contents before ordering.

Up to what age should a child travel rear-facing?

The i-Size regulation requires rear-facing travel until at least 15 months, but it's recommended to keep this position for as long as possible, as it's safer for the child's head and neck. Rotating models, such as the Cybex Sirona G, make it easier to put the baby in and take them out while keeping this orientation.

How do I know if the seat is compatible with my car?

i-Size car seats are compatible with cars fitted with Isofix points that are listed as i-Size ready in the vehicle's manual. Even so, some models have their own compatibility lists, particularly those that use a load leg. If in doubt, the Bonabebe team can help confirm compatibility with your car.

Can I use the i-Size seat on the pushchair?

Newborn car seats (infant carriers) can, in many cases, be attached to the pushchair chassis using adapters, creating a travel system. Compatibility depends on the brand and model of the pushchair. Check the product page, or with the Bonabebe team, whether specific adapters are needed.
