Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between a stretchy wrap, a woven wrap and a ring sling?

A stretchy wrap, such as the Isara One Size, is soft and well suited to newborns and beginners. A woven wrap, such as ByKay or Fidella, is firmer, supports more weight and lasts longer. A ring sling uses two rings for a quick fit and hip carrying, making it practical for older babies. The choice depends on the baby's age and the carrier's experience.

From what age can I use a wrap or sling?

Stretchy wraps and slings can generally be used from birth, provided they ensure the ergonomic position, with the back rounded and hips in an M shape, and keep the baby's airway clear and face visible. Each model states the recommended minimum weight. It's advisable to start by practising with support.

Wraps come in different sizes. How do I choose mine?

Woven wraps come in numbered sizes, for example 5, 6 or 7, which vary depending on the type of tie and the wearer's build. A smaller size suits simpler ties; larger ones allow more variety in tying. If in doubt about size, the Bonabebe team can help.

Is wrap carrying good for the baby's hips?

When your baby is placed in the correct ergonomic position, with the knees higher than the bottom, forming an M-shape, and with the back supported in its natural curve, carrying respects healthy hip development. That's why it's important to follow each model's instructions. Avoid positions where your baby's legs hang straight down.

Is it difficult to learn how to put on a baby wrap?

At first it takes some practice, especially with woven wraps, but with repetition it becomes quick and intuitive. Brands such as Wildride offer simpler wrap-style carriers for those looking for more ease. We recommend practising the knots with your baby held securely, ideally with help the first few times.

What's the weight limit for these wraps and slings?

Most woven wraps and ring slings support your baby for many months, often up to preschool age, while stretchy wraps are more suitable for the early months. The recommended maximum weight is given on each product's page. Always keep to that limit for safe, comfortable carrying.
