Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between an audio-only baby monitor and one with a camera (video)?

An audio monitor transmits only the sound from the room, while models with a camera — such as the Philips Avent with Camera, the Maxi-Cosi See or the Miniland Digimonitor — also let you see the baby on screen. Video gives extra peace of mind, as it lets you check the child's sleep and position without entering the room. Both options are available in this collection; the choice depends on each family's preference and budget.

Do the baby monitors in this collection work over Wi-Fi/an app or on a closed circuit?

Both types exist. Some models, such as the Philips Avent with Connectivity or the Maxi-Cosi See, connect to the phone app via Wi-Fi, letting you see your baby remotely. Others, such as most Miniland Digimonitor and Philips Avent Night Owl models, work on a closed circuit, with a dedicated parent unit and no reliance on the internet. Check each product's sheet for the type of connection.

From what age should you start using a baby monitor?

The baby monitor can be used from birth, and is especially useful once the baby starts sleeping in a room separate from the parents. In the early months it helps keep an eye on sleep from a distance and respond quickly when the baby wakes. It's a supervision aid and doesn't replace caregivers' in-person supervision.

Do these baby monitors have night vision and a temperature sensor?

Most camera models include infrared night vision, letting you see your baby in the dark without turning on lights. Several models, especially from Miniland and Philips Avent, also show room temperature and humidity. The exact features vary from model to model, so we recommend checking each product's page.

What's the range of the baby monitors, and do they work without internet?

Closed-circuit models usually offer a range of several dozen metres in open spaces, which decreases with walls and obstacles. These work independently, with no need for internet. Wi-Fi models, on the other hand, let you access the image from anywhere with an internet connection, via the app. The specific range is stated on each product's page.

Is the connection on these baby monitors secure and private?

Closed-circuit baby monitors use encrypted digital transmission between the camera and the parent unit, which makes interference harder. On Wi-Fi models, it's recommended to set a strong password in the app and keep the software updated to protect privacy. If in doubt about a specific model, the Bonabebe team can help.
