The switch to a medium flow (sometimes called flow 3 or T4) is usually made at around 3 months, when the baby feeds more effectively and the slow flow can no longer keep up. Signs such as fussiness or a feed taking too long can indicate it's time to increase the flow. Adjust according to each baby.

Dummies marked 3M+, such as the Philips Avent Soothie, are designed for babies from 3 months, with a size and shape suited to that stage. It's recommended to replace the dummy regularly, and whenever it shows signs of wear, and to check it's intact before each use for safety.

Between 3 and 12 months, your baby starts taking larger amounts, so larger-capacity bottles (for example 260 ml to 340 ml, available in the collection) tend to be more practical than the small ones used at the start. The amount per feed should follow your paediatrician's guidance.

At this stage, sensory stimulation toys are useful, such as Chicco rattles and Lilliputiens activity spirals to attach to the cot or pushchair. They help develop grasping, coordination and vision. Choose washable items with no loose small parts.

In the first months, it's recommended to sterilise bottles, teats and dummies after washing. From a certain age, and following your paediatrician's guidance, many families reduce sterilising, while still keeping careful hygiene.
