Why choose the Avionaut Stardust from 61 cm

The Avionaut Stardust stands out for its well-thought-out details and versatility of use. Among the two available versions, the one starting from 61 cm is chosen here — ideal for use after the infant car seat. Although it is possible to use the seat from 40 cm with the included reducer, this may leave the baby too exposed in the early stages. Therefore, it is recommended to use the Stardust from 61 cm, at which point it offers greater comfort and stability.

This choice allows for a seamless transition between an infant car seat and a car seat that accompanies the child's growth up to 150 cm, which represents a practical and durable solution for parents. As for installation, the process is simple and intuitive. In addition, the car seat is secured using the ISOFIX system, with sliding clips that must be fitted into the car's ISOFIX points.

The car seat arm can be adjusted to take up more or less space, depending on the need and the baby's growth. In addition, it includes a foot support that adjusts easily with a button and provides extra stability during use. All these elements must be prepared at the time of installation to ensure a secure fit.

Comfort and Safety

In addition to installation, there are other elements that make the Avionaut Stardust a smart choice. The car seat includes a Side Impact Protection system, which should be placed on the door side for greater lateral protection. This piece fits easily: just position the smaller part upwards and rotate until it is properly secured.

But what really stands out are the details designed for the child's thermal comfort. Avionaut has covered the most critical areas — the headrest, backrest, and seat base — with 8D mesh fabric.

This choice allows for better air circulation, reducing overheating, especially in warmer months. As a result, the baby travels cooler, calmer, and more comfortable. A calm baby cries less and protests less — which, in practice, allows parents a more serene and safe drive.

Adjustments, recline and measurements

The Avionaut Stardust includes an easy-to-use harness system. Simply press the marked button to loosen or adjust the belts, with clear visual indications that facilitate the process. The car seat features an inclined structure that promotes a correct posture during travels. In addition, the button that allows the seat to rotate also serves to adjust the recline, offering up to four different levels.

The "V" shaped headrest helps keep the baby's legs in a more ergonomic position, improving the resting angle and comfort. Although it does not have universal leveling, the Stardust's recline is quite generous, which is reflected in a good adaptation to most car seats.

The car seat allows rear-facing travel up to 1.25 m or 20 kg, which represents an excellent margin. However, with a maximum back height of 68 cm, it easily accommodates children up to about 1.15 m, especially those of lighter build.

The backrest height to the shoulders is 45.5 cm, which, in turn, ensures extended use in the rear-facing position. Furthermore, in terms of internal width, the car seat measures 34 cm at the back and 35 cm at the base, thus offering comfortable space without compromising safety. Therefore, these dimensions make the Avionaut Stardust a very balanced option for those seeking prolonged safety and an ergonomic fit.

Materials and Rear-Facing Safety

In principle, all these car seats are i-Size. So, if your car is also i-Size, this car seat will fit perfectly. After all, it was designed to fit a "box" compatible with this standard.

However, what may happen is that you cannot use the full leg extension for the baby. Still, the car seat will fit. For greater precision, here are the measurements:

• Total length: 76 cm

• Height in the most upright position: 67 cm

• Width: 45 cm, or 49 cm with the Side Impact Protection (CIP), which is recommended for use.

Inside, the headrest is very well designed. It is made of EPS, even though it is black, and includes an extra cushion for comfort. However, the impact-absorbing material is in the central area, while the sides have a viscoelastic-type material, which increases comfort.

Unfortunately, the sides do not have EPS — a point to improve in a future version. Even so, the highlight is the fact that the car seat allows rear-facing travel up to 1.25 m or 20 kg. This deserves a big applause to Avionaut, because traveling rear-facing is five times safer.

Most accidents involve frontal impact. In these cases, facing backward allows for better absorption of impact energy. In addition, babies have a proportionally large head, which increases the risk in case of impact if they are facing forward.

Therefore, even with the absence of EPS on the sides, this car seat is still an excellent choice. Due to its general construction, headrest safety, and the ability to travel rear-facing up to 1.25 m, it is clearly a safer option than others that reverse too early, before 3 years old it will be too early to be forward-facing.

Using the Avionaut Stardust Forward-Facing

As we saw, this car seat also allows for forward-facing use. For this, the same button that serves to recline also allows rotation between the two directions of travel. However, it would be desirable for Avionaut to have included a locking button to prevent premature use in this position.

By law, the car seat is not allowed to be forward-facing before 15 months or 75 cm in height. However, the car seat does not have any physical lock to prevent this error — the so-called misuse. Brands should consider mechanisms that prevent misuse.

Even so, with conscious use and respecting legal limits, the car seat continues to offer safety. In this format, it is possible to travel forward-facing with a harness up to 1.05 m in height. The harness's load capacity is calibrated for this limit.

It was important for the seat itself to highlight this information more clearly. Direct visual signaling would be ideal to avoid confusion. Between 75 cm and 1.5 m is the permitted range for using the seat forward-facing with a harness.

After this phase, the harness must be removed. The seat is then used with a backrest. If the car has an ISOFIX system, it can still be used up to 1.5 m. If not, simply retract the support leg and secure it with the seat belt.

Although the brand indicates 1.25 m, in practice few children reach this height without exceeding 20 kg. Still, gaining those extra 10 cm in the rear-facing position is an important safety advantage.
