The Bugaboo Butterfly comes surprisingly well-equipped right out of the box. Inside, you'll find the stroller, instruction manual, rain cover, padded liner, and even the leg rest — an extra many parents appreciate. This makes the initial experience more complete, practical, and ready to use.

Additionally, you can purchase extra accessories to enhance the stroller's functionality. The car seat adapters (€54.95) are universal and compatible with various brands, such as Maxi-Cosi, Cybex, or Joie. The bumper bar (€49.95) and the practical rear organizer are also available—perfect for keeping essentials always at hand.

Measurements and Capacity of the Butterfly

The Bugaboo Butterfly stroller supports up to 22 kg, making it suitable for older or rapidly growing children. Furthermore, the seat is generous, offering 57 cm in length, 26 cm in the support area, and a total of 42 cm if we include the footrest. Additionally, its 33 cm width makes it one of the ultra-compact strollers with the most internal space, ideal for larger babies.

Bugaboo equipped the Butterfly with 12 cm front wheels and 15 cm rear wheels — small dimensions, even within the XS segment. It also includes a functional brake, although it might be less practical with open shoes, which is worth noting. On the other hand, it features effective rear suspension and a basket with an 8 kg capacity, which stands out for being flexible and easily accessible.

Bugaboo designed the Butterfly with a modular system, making it much easier to replace parts and purchase additional accessories over time. As the stroller wears, parents can, for example, easily swap components like the wheels or bumper bar. This extends the stroller's durability and maintains its performance as new.

When closing the stroller, the system requires two hands, which, in practice, might not be as convenient for daily use. For transport, you can use the strap or, alternatively, the footrest as a handle. However, since the strap is quite short, taller people might feel some discomfort when carrying it on their shoulder.

Bugaboo Butterfly IATA cabin measurements

The Butterfly is IATA approved, ensuring it meets the permitted dimensions for cabin baggage: 53 cm in height, 43 cm in width, and 23 cm in depth. In terms of weight, it totals 7.2 kg—slightly above other ultra-compact strollers, which range between 5 and 7 kg. However, this extra weight translates into a more robust, stable, and durable structure.

Butterfly comfort and details

Opening the Bugaboo Butterfly is extremely simple. First, just press the rear button, and then the handle button—and the stroller immediately begins to open. In many cases, it's even possible to do it with just one hand, depending on the strength of the person handling it. Furthermore, an interesting detail is the included safety strap, which helps keep the stroller under control during transport.

The seat offers a good level of comfort and, in addition, includes a removable liner — a very practical solution for those who need to wash it frequently. To do this, simply put it in the washing machine at 30°C. Additionally, installation is simple thanks to the large holes. Finally, the five-point harness adjusts easily and unlatches with a click of the central button.

Although the backrest is solid and doesn't have mesh for ventilation, the seat, on the other hand, reclines to a comfortable position, ideal for naps. Furthermore, the XL canopy provides good coverage for the baby, though it could be more efficient at blocking the sun, depending on the angle of the light. Still, it offers practical adjustments and, overall, performs its function well in most situations.

Finally, the stroller includes an adjustable footrest, which, though rigid, serves its purpose well — especially as the baby grows and their feet rest on the lower area. Additionally, the seat features a five-point harness, ensuring safety and easy adjustment.

The Bugaboo Butterfly always faces forward; it's not possible to reverse the position to face the parents. It includes a soft-touch bumper bar with a faux leather finish. On smooth surfaces, it maneuvers quite easily. Although the handlebar is not adjustable, it offers a comfortable position for most users—though taller individuals might experience some discomfort.

Moreover, on uneven terrain, some vibration is felt — something perfectly expected in an ultra-compact city stroller. However, thanks to the integrated rubber in the wheels, the impact is partially absorbed, which ensures a surprising level of comfort for this type of model.

Bugaboo Butterfly: Yes or No?

The Bugaboo Butterfly Stroller costs €459 and already includes important accessories like the rain cover and footrest, thus offering great value from the start. Furthermore, it is one of the most compact strollers in its segment and is approved for airplane cabins, making it ideal for travel. However, the Butterfly was designed to be a second stroller, not an "all-in-one" model, so accessories like car seat adapters are sold separately.

Therefore, this stroller stands out as an excellent choice for vacations or for those seeking a practical and functional second stroller. However, it is not the absolute favorite, as it does not offer the option of a carrycot — a feature that some competitors possess and which greatly facilitates use with newborns.

Although the Bugaboo Butterfly isn't a top pick because it lacks a carrycot option, it easily surpasses the UPPAbaby Minu due to its lighter, more compact, comfortable design with an elongated seat. Furthermore, it outperforms the Stokke Yoyo by being small and nearly closing with one hand, offering great value. However, it only loses out to the Joolz, which provides a 10-year warranty and allows travel with a carrycot from birth.

Nevertheless, the Butterfly deserves a prominent place, as it combines comfort, compactness, and a competitive price, making it a safe and worthwhile choice for a second stroller!
